Stormwater Dollars at Work!

In partnership with PennDOT, the Paxton Creek Cooperative (Susquehanna Township, Lower Paxton Township, and Capital Region Water) is utilizing their Stormwater Management Program Fee monies to fund stormwater projects and programs. As a result, you may have seen some construction activities happening around Susquehanna Township, in Shutt Mill Park, the area behind the Pines Apartment, and Veterans Park. Stream restoration includes reconstructing the existing creek bottom to enhance the stream's ability to retain sediment during storm events and reduces any streambank erosion. These projects help improve a creek's health by stabilizing vegetation and creek channels, and reducing erosion and downstream sedimentation. With these projects, the Paxton Creek Cooperative has met almost half of the pollutant reduction goals established in the MS4 Permit and Joint Pollution Reduction Plan.

We have restored:

  • 3,284 linear feet of stream at Veterans Park
  • 914 linear feet of stream at Shutt Mill Park
  • 1,203 linear feet of stream at Pines Apartment

Benefits of Stream Restoration

  • Removal of invasive species
  • Increased storage capacity of water and sediment
  • Creation of a gentler, wider creek bed
  • Stabliziation of stream bank with native plants
  • Improved water quality and wildlife habitat
