Why does Susquehanna Township need to deal with stormwater?

There are several reasons that Susquehanna Township needs to deal with stormwater.

1. Stormwater running off of hard surfaces picks up oil, litter, pet waste, and other pollutants and carries them directly to our streams, creating water pollution.

2. The Township has an underground system of pipes that carry the polluted water and outlet into local streams.  As these pipes age, and begin to decay, it can have an impact on proper drainage, cause sinkholes, and increase water pollution.

3. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency enforces strict regulations on polluted stormwater, requiring the Township to show significant progress towards eliminating sediment from Paxton Creek and the Susquehanna River over the next five years.
