Why does stormwater need to be managed?

Stormwater becomes a problem when it picks up debris, chemicals, dirt, and other pollutants as it flows along streets and drainage ways or when it causes flooding and erosion of stream banks. Stormwater travels through a system of pipes and roadside ditches that make up storm sewer systems.  Stormwater in Susquehanna Township flows to Paxton Creek and Spring Creek.  Stormwater does not get treated therefore all of the pollutants stormwater picks up along the way contaminate these creeks.  This is stormwater pollution and both federal and state agencies have enhanced the regulations governing stormwater on the local level.
