Authority Commercial Water Leak

What If My Water Usage is High Due to a Water Leak

As a commercial customer, your sewer bill is directly related to your water usage; the more water you use, the higher your sewer bill will become. If you have an abnormally high water bill due to a water leak at your location, please follow the steps below.

  1. Call your water company to ask if they will reduce your water consumption for the time period that you had the leak.
  2. If the water company agrees to reduce your water consumption for that time period, get the reduction in writing including the time period and the amount of water usage they are crediting you for.
  3. Mail, fax, email or drop off a copy of the letter you received from the water company to the Authority Office.

If your water company agrees to reduce your consumption due to a water leak, the Authority will also reduce your water consumption for the exact amount that the water company did. This will reduce your sewer bill accordingly.

If the water company refuses to reduce your water consumption during the period you had the water leak then, unfortunately, the Authority cannot do so either and you will be responsible for paying your sewer bill based on the entire amount of your usage that the water company is billing you for.

Should you have any questions regarding this or any other topic, please feel free to contact the Authority office at (717) 545-0116.
