Trap - Neuter - Return Program
Township Policies and Guidelines
Feeding of wild animals outside is not allowed unless registered with a TNR program (Section 2-102 of the Susquehanna Township Animal Code).
Participants of the program must be registered with SCC, and follow the program rules outlined by the Township. The rules were approved by the Board of Commissioners on September 28, 2023 (see below to download the TNR program rules (Resolution 2023-R-28).
Cat Deterrents
There are a variety of humane devices and techniques to help keep community cats off people’s properties. Some examples are motion-activated sprinklers, ultrasonic alarms, digging deterrents, and scents that repel cats. Depending on the behavior the cats are displaying, different techniques can be used to stop or deter the behavior.
Stopping the Cycle
"Stopping The Cycle" is the SCC's campaign to humanely reduce the overpopulation of feral and free-roaming cats. It provides a "NO-KILL" Population Control Service, saving taxpayers' money, saving cats' lives, and doing the best possible for feral and free-roaming cats - not euthanizing them but allowing the cats to live out their lives in the environment they know and love.
- Assistance with trapping feral cats
- Monthly 2-day surgery clinics (held on a Thursday and Friday)
- Post-surgery care
- Additional medical care, as needed
Volunteers and donations are needed to run this continuing program. For more information, call Steelton Community Cats at (717) 877-4146 or click here to visit their website for upcoming trapping and clinic dates.
