Susquehanna Township has been mandated by the Department of Environmental Protection to enforce commercial recycling in the Township.  Per the Susquehanna Township Municipal Waste Reduction and Recycling Ordinance [Ord. 04-10 adopted 7/8/2004], all Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, and Municipal establishments are mandated to recycle the following items:

  • Office paper and Mixed papers (i.e. magazines & catalogs)
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Glass
  • Aluminum / bi-metal cans
  • Plastics #1 through #7
  • Leaf Waste

If a commercial establishment is using any source other than Penn Waste for recycling OR they use Penn Waste plus another company for their recycling, then a Commercial Recycling Report MUST be provided to the township annually. Along with the form, invoices that clearly state the name of the company, the company providing the recycling services, total weight, and/or any other supporting documents must be submitted annually by January 31st for the previous year.

Examples of other types of recycling services:

  • If your company follows HIPAA laws and shreds paper, the shredding company that is used can provide the weights should be reported to the Township.
  • If your company turns scrap metal in for recycling, the weights should be reported to the Township.

Click HERE for the commercial recycling report.  It can be either mailed to the Township or emailed directly to Betsy Logan. If you have any additional questions; please contact the township.

Please note: The commercial recycling program is being strictly enforced.  Failure to do commercial recycling in Susquehanna Township will result in citations being filed.  Fines can range from $50.00 up to $600.00 per day and will be issued daily until compliance is achieved.
