Steps to Prevent Stormwater Runoff Pollution

Never dump anything down storm drains or in creeks.
Dispose of waste properly.
Vegetate bare spots in your yard.
Use fertilizers properly and efficiently to prevent excess runoff.
Sweep driveways, sidewalks, and gutters, instead of hosing them down.
Direct downspouts away from paved surfaces; consider a rain garden or rain barrel to capture runoff.

Use the least toxic pesticides.  Follow labels and learn how to prevent pest problems.
Compost yard waste.
Pick up after your pets.
Check your car for leaks and recycle motor oil.
Clean your car at a carwash, or wash your car on a permeable surface such as grass, instead of a driveway.
Store materials that could pollute stormwater indoors.
Traditional concrete and asphalt don’t allow water to soak into the ground.  Use of permeable pavement systems allows rain and snowmelt to soak through into the ground, decreasing stormwater runoff.
