Title: Deputy
Chief of Police
Following a
five-year tour in the United States Marine Corps (including service during
Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm), Captain Jeffrey Vargo joined the
Lebanon City Police Department in Lebanon, PA. He attended the 42nd
Municipal
Police
Academy
and earned the Physical Fitness Award for outstanding physical fitness.
He spent three years with the Lebanon City Police Department, including time as
a Criminal Investigator. He joined the Susquehanna Township Police in
1997.
While employed
here, Captain Vargo has held a variety of positions. He spent four years
as a K-9 handler, was on the bike patrol unit, and has been a Field Training
Officer for many new officers. Patrolman Vargo was promoted to Sergeant in
2002, and was one of the fastest promoted to this rank in the department's
history. In November 2009 he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police.
Aside from his
Patrol Division duties, Captain Vargo serves as the physical fitness coordinator
for this department and prospective applicants, the department recruiter, and
OIC of our ceremonial unit. He is a founding member of the Dauphin County
Ceremonial Unit (Honor Guard). He is also been on the Course Development
Committee for police cadets through MPOETC.
Captain Vargo holds
certifications in a variety of training areas, and attended the Police Executive
Development training at
Penn
State
University
in 2003. He has received many awards in his career, to include an
Officer of the Year Award from ASIS (American Society for Industrial Security)
and the coveted Drew Comrey Order of Honor Award from Chief Martin.
Captain Vargo holds
a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree from the
American
Public
University
and is currently completing a Master’s Degree. He is a graduate
of the
FBI
National
Academy
, 243rd Session.
