Title: Platoon commander (C)
Following a five-year tour in the Marines (including a tour during Operation Desert
Shield and Desert Storm), Sgt Jeff Vargo joined the Lebanon City Police. He attended the 42nd Municipal Police
Academy and earned the Physical Fitness Award while there. He spent three
years in Lebanon, including time as a Criminal Investigator. He joined the
Susquehanna Township Police in 1997 and has served since.
While employed here, Sgt Vargo has held a variety of
positions. He spent four years as a K-9 handler, was on the bike patrol
unit, and has been a Field Training Officer for many new officers.
Patrolman Vargo was promoted to Sergeant in 2002, and was one of the fastest
promoted to this rank in the department's history.
Today, he serves as the commander of C Platoon.
Aside from his Patrol Division duties, Sgt Vargo serves as the physical
fitness coordinator for this department and prospective applicants, the department
recruiter, and NCOIC of our ceremonial unit. He is a current and founding member of the Dauphin County Ceremonial Unit (Honor Guard). He is
also on the Course Development Committee for police cadets through MPOETC.
Sgt Vargo holds certifications in a variety of training areas, and attended
the Police Executive Development training at Penn State University in
2003. He has received many awards in his career, to include an
Officer of the Year Award from ASIS (American Society for Industrial Security)
and the coveted Drew Comrey Order of Honor Award from Chief Martin.
