Title: Lieutenant of Staff Services
Lt Lengel began his career in law enforcement in 1982 with another
local department. He left there and began serving the citizens of
Susquehanna Township since 1988.
In his career here, he has served in many capacities while working his way up
the ranks. He has worked as a D.A.R.E. officer speaking to local youth
about the dangers of drugs. He rode for the Bicycle Patrol in the bike
unit. He worked closely with the U.S. Marshal's Service's Violent
Fugitives Task Force in 1991-1992 helping apprehend local fugitives for the
federal government. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Dauphin County
Crisis Response Team (SWAT), now serving as their Assistant County
Coordinator.
In 1998, (Patrolman) Lengel was promoted to Sergeant, in command of 'C' platoon in the
Patrol Division. Following five successful years there, he was promoted to
Lieutenant of Staff Services; his current position today. His duties
include managing the large fleet of police vehicles and related equipment,
maintaining the ongoing departmental accreditation status, managing our large
array of office and in-car computers, and overseeing the police firearms
training program.
Some of his notable training endeavors include completion of the U.S. Secret
Service Firearms Academy and certification as an Immediate Action/Rapid
Deployment Instructor. The latter certification is from the National
Tactical Officer's Association and is related to his expertise in handling
violence encounters in schools and other public settings. This is a great
credit to our department's dedication to keeping our schools, malls, churches,
and other areas as safe as can be.
Lt Lengel's career has been filled with various awards and commendations from a
wide variety of law enforcement and community groups. He has received the
prestigious Drew Comrey Order of Honor Medal from Chief Martin for his
distinguished service to this community as a police officer, along with the Life
Saving Award, for his work on a SWAT operation involving a severely emotionally
disturbed person.
