The Health Officer enforces State and Susquehanna Township Ordinances regarding Food Safety and Inspections. It is the role of the Health Officer to perform all food safety inspections for the retail sale, commercial and institutional service, and vending of food. In addition, the Health Officer issues Food Service Permits and handles complaints related to food safety. Susquehanna Township has contracted the position of Health Officer to Jerry Heisey, owner of Food Safety Consultants of Central PA.
The Health Board reviews issues related to Food Inspections, Environmental, Housing and Communicable Disease Reports. The board also hears appeals of the Health Officer’s orders when filed in a timely fashion; and acts on issues of Public Health concern when submitted to them by the Township Board of Commissioners.
Any other non-food safety health concerns and codes enforcement should be directed to the the Building Codes Official. This includes complaints related to property maintenance, such as overgrowth of vegetation, mold, vermin, trash and debris. If you are unsure where to direct your concern, please contact the Building Code Official.
