AARP Safe Driving Certification Class 

Susquehanna Township Recreation in conjunction with AARP is offering the Defensive Driver Safety course for anyone over the age of 55, township residency not required.  Attendance in the class secures you three years of certification as a “Safe Driver” plus the percentage reduction on your insurance premium.

Advance registration is required for this class in order to secure materials and provide adequate seating. Space is limited; please call 909-9228 to secure your seat.

Boating Safety Certification   (4 TWO HOUR SESSION)

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a four week Boating Safety course. This course will qualify attendees for the PA and USCG Safe Boating Certification.  The course covers all the necessary basics for piloting recreational boats.  It is highly recommended for boaters of all skill levels and required for all born after 1981.   Topics for review include: Intro to Boating, Maritime Laws, Safety Equipment, Navigation, Trailering and Hunting and Fishing regulations.

Registration is required for appropriate planning and materials.  Please call the Susquehanna Township Recreation Office at 909-9228 to secure your seat for this very informative class.

Steep Education Academy

“Hiking the Appalachian Trail and State Parks!”       

Middle School teachers Todd McCall and Trevar Scheuch will lead a week long hiking, state park exploration course.  A van will transport up to 20 students to a segment of the Appalachian Trail for a day long hike.  Pack a lunch, wear comfortable shoes and spend a day/week in the wilds of Pennsylvania.  Middle school ages of 12 -15 male or female welcome on this trip.

PSAT/SAT– MATH STRATEGIES

An absolute must for college-bound students – this course introduces the format of the SAT and PSAT math tests.  Emphasis will be placed on the core math concepts central to the test – as well as the more advanced topics added to the newest version of the SAT.  (Students should bring a calculator to class.)

PSAT/SAT – VERBAL STRATEGIES

This course is a companion class to those SAT preps taught in math by Anne Rogalski and uses the same book. If a student has not taken Mrs. Rogalski’s class in June, a copy of that book must be acquired for this course.  SAT Verbal prep focuses on test-readiness, familiarity with the test questions, and strategies for improving scores. Each section of the verbal component is reviewed and analyzed so that the student will feel more confident when taking the SAT.

SAT – ADVANCED MATH STRATEGIES

This course is intended for students who have already taken a PSAT/SAT math prep course – as well as those who have completed any Algebra 2 or Advanced Math course in high school.  Emphasis will be placed on the more sophisticated math topics included on the SAT test.  The major focus will be score improvement. 

(Students should bring a calculator to class.)

PHYSICAL FITNESS and EXERCISE CLASSES FOR ALL AGES

  

Teen Athletic Enhancement &  Performance Conditioning    

Innovative sports conditioning program with special attention for each athlete and sport specific. All sports, all levels, male or female.  The class will be taught by a degreed professional strength & conditioning coach with over 30 years experience.

Dates: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, June 21 – July 16      3 pm-7pm

Fee: $75 session   (12 classes)

Participants:  10 per hour (Ages 13-18)

Youth Exercise       

General fitness, weight management and sports related exercise.  Unique program designed by trainer/P.E. teacher with 30 years experience designing and teaching exercise programming. Location: Max Fitness, 3401 N. 6th Street, Harrisburg

Women’s “Strength Training 101”             

Tone, shape and define your body, boost energy & metabolism, and maintain or improve bone density. The class maximizes results and safety by focusing on proper form and technique. Location: Max Fitness, 3401 N. 6th Street, Harrisburg

Chair Yoga  

Chair Yoga is unique form of Yoga, perfect for anyone who would like to experience the benefits of Yoga but prefers a chair to a mat. The classes will include yoga breathing techniques, traditional yoga poses, balance and relaxation exercises along with stress reduction tips.  This practice is easier on the joints and limbs. Please wear comfortable clothing, bring water and a pillow if needed. Location Susquehanna Township Senior Center, lower level of Township Building1900 Linglestown Road

Senior Fitness and Wellness

Every Wednesday, at 10 AM, certified Fitness Instructor Dorothy Bangert leads an hour long fitness session in the Susquehanna Room of the Township Building.  This donation only program, stresses balance exercises, stretching, muscle building with a low impact safe level for the mature body.  The program is adapted for all, especially those dealing with the effects of diabetes, arthritis, joint replacements, rheumatoid osteoarthritis and other ailments. Drop in any Wednesday, 10 AM .  No registration necessary
