2013 SENIOR CENTER HAPPENINGS

The Senior Center is located in the lower level of the Township Municipal Building

Program Descriptions for 2013

Computer Lab - Internet FOR Adults AND Seniors

The computer lab (4 computers) is available for your use Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.   This is an on-your-own experience with the computer, surfing the net, e-mail or word processing. You may stop in during those hours or call to see if a computer is available. Please call for availability 909-9228

AARP Safe Driving Certification Class*

Monday May 13th & Tuesday May 14th  9 AM – 1 PM

Susquehanna Township Recreation in conjunction with AARP is offering the Defensive Driver Safety course taught by certified instructor, Henry Dreher. The course is for anyone over the age of 55, Township residency not required. Attendance in the class secures you three years of certification as a “Safe Driver” plus the percentage reduction on your insurance premium. Must attend both sessions to receive certificate and be eligible for reduced insurance rate.

Fee: $12 AARP members ($14 non AARP members)

 

Four Hour Safe Driving Refresher Course*

Friday May 24, 2013  9 AM -1 PM

Mr. Dreher will also offer the four hour refresher class for those previously certified by AARP instructors. Must show proof (i.e. certificate) of completion of a previous course

Fee: $12 AARP members  ($14 non AARP members)

*Advance registration is required for both driving classes in order to secure materials and provide adequate seating.   Please call 909-9228 to secure your space for either class.  Space is limited, and it is on a first come basis.

 

CHAIR YOGA 

Chair Yoga is a gentle, non-traditional form of Yoga. This yoga practice is easier on the joints and limbs. Included in this Yoga practice are four types of exercises: range of motion, strengthening, endurance and balance. This class guides students in postures, breath work, and meditation to encourage self-awareness and exploration. This practice promotes physical strength, flexibility, mental clarity, inner calm and over all wellness.
Thursdays at 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Session 1: May 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30    Fee $45.00
 Session 2: June 6, 13, 20  & 27      Fee $36.00

SENIOR FITNESS and WELLNESS CLASSES

Every Wednesday, at 10 AM, certified Fitness Instructor Dorothy Bangert leads an hour long fitness session in the Susquehanna Room of the Township Building .  This donation only program, stresses balance exercises, stretching, muscle building with a low impact safe level for the mature body.  The program is adapted for all, especially those dealing with the effects of diabetes, arthritis, joint replacements, rheumatoid osteoarthritis and other ailments. No registration necessary Drop in any Wednesday, 10 AM .   $3.00 donation requested

 

BOOK SWAP

The Senior Center offers an opportunity to swap your books for  books you have not read. We have 2 full bookshelves of donated books for you to choose from. If you do not have a book too swap, then a minimal donation will allow you to take one or more of our books with you. Book swap is available during regular senior center hours.

 

WEDNESDAY’S BOARD GAMES

Every Wednesday afternoon, a drop in program, Scrabble, Boggle or your choice of activity. Get a foursome and come enjoy some social time. Free program 11am - 2 pm.

 

 

MEALS ON WHEELS  - Volunteers Needed!
Delivery of 10 – 16 meals out of our center on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in Susquehanna Township. If you can offer one day a month to do deliveries please call Sheona @ 909-9228

CARD CLUB

Join the card group to participate in your favorite games or bring a foursome and play on Mondays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Are you tired of feeling intimidated by your computer or watching your grandkids rely on them?

A free basic course for using  a personal computer will be offered this summer on Monday & Wednesday mornings in the Senior Center computer lab. Call immediately to reserve your time for this most beneficial class designed to help the novice learn to use the computer. No experience necessary, come and learn with us. Call 909-9228 for information or to reserve you time slot.
