As we approach the winter season, the
Susquehanna Township Highway Department prepares for snow and ice removal. The
Department maintains more than 100 miles of township roadways and alleyways. Our
snow removal process begins with major routes, then residential streets,
cul-de-sacs and alleys last.
The clearing of snow from around mailboxes is the responsibility of the
homeowner. The homeowner should wait for the snow plows to pass before clearing
mailboxes and driveways. Also, it is illegal to place snow or any other
obstruction on the roadway.
- Clear a pathway of 30" on your sidewalk
no later than 24 hours after snow has stopped falling.
- Snow or ice from your property should
remain on your property, not in the street.
- Ashes, sawdust or sand may be
strewn if the snow or ice becomes frozen and would damage your pavement.
- Fire hydrants must be cleared.
- Mailboxes must be cleared.
- If possible, wait for the snow plow
to pass before clearing mailboxes and driveways.
