SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR DECEMBER, 2009

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On December 1, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 1110 Edgemont Road concerning bricks that are still present at the property located at 1112 Edgemont Road-Citation was issued.

On December 2, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 3526 North 4th Street for various violations and a letter of violations was sent out to the owner.

On December 3, 2009; A Court Hearing for Jarvis and Brenda Kates from 3927 North 6th Street. An extension was given to December 19 to have all of the violations corrected and report back to DJ Shugars. Everything was clean up as ordered. The case is now closed.

On December 3, 2009; A Meeting with George Drees, Fire Marshal, Michael Rohrer, Zoning Officer and myself concerning a Commercial Smoker which is being stored at 4484 Vale Court. A letter was sent out by Michael Rohrer about the regulations to have a commercial smoker here within the township.

On December 4, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection at Apt. #1 at 4501 North Front Street and all of the violations were closed. The case is now closed.

On December 4, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 3519 Ridgeway Road for various violations and a letter was sent out to the owners about the accumulation of trash and salvage goods at the rear of the property.

On December 7, 2009; An Inspection at 10 Marshfield Road to check on violations. Violations were present and a letter has gone out about the violations.

On December 7, 2009; A Meeting with the owners of Yoza Food mart about starting to make sandwiches on site and what is involved in the process.

On December 7, 2009; A Meeting with Bruce Cohick who is the Foreman for the Sonic Drive-In Project.

On December 8, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 2305 Canby Street and no new violations noted. A re-inspection will occur again in February.

On December 9, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 3419 North 6th Street and no one was present for the re-inspection but a call did come from the owners and it was rescheduled for Friday, December 18, 2009.

On December 9, 2009; An Inspection at White House Black Market with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. Nothing was found in violation for the township and they were advised to make sure to put water down the drain to prevent a clog. Also to contact the landlord if the problem continues.

On December 10, 2009; I attended the CASA quarterly meeting held at the Department of Agriculture’s building.

On December 14, 2009; A Meeting again with Bruce Cohick, Foreman for the Sonic Drive In project about backflow prevention devices.

On December 15, 2009; A Meeting with the Restaurants of the township about the Garrison System. On hand for the meeting was Bobby McClean and Doug Morris from the Department of Agriculture. 23 Restaurant attended the two hour session.

On December 15, 2009; Another Onsite Meeting was conducted with Bruce Cohick, Foreman for the Sonic Drive Inn to see how things were progressing. Another meeting will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009.

On December 15, 2009; An Extensive Meeting was held with Penn Waste about the Tag-A-Bag Program. Edward Ward and Tammy Duke from Penn Waste, myself, Cindy Deitrich and Jonniene Urban from the township were also present for the meeting. The township is all set up now and will be able to start the program on Wednesday, December 16, 2009.

On December 16, 2009; A Housing Code and Yard Inspection at 2207 Walnut Street and nothing has changed since the initial inspection on November 18. Citations were issued for the violations that are still present.

On December 16, 2009; A Housing Code and Yard Inspection was conducted at 1722 Glenside Drive with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting. No violations were noted and the case is closed.

On December 18, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection was done at 3419 North 6th Street and the trash and some of the clutter was removed from the residence. Next Inspection is scheduled for January 12, 2010.

On December 22, 2009; A walk through at the new proposed Empire Asian Bistro and they are expected to open mid January.

On December 23, 2009; A Meeting with Albert and Frank Smith concerning the conditions that are still present at the abandoned property at 2224 Walnut Street.

On December 28, 2009; A Court hearing at DJ Lenkers office concerning the residence at 2224 Northview Lane for high grass and weeds. The violation had been corrected and the case was dismissed.

On December 30, 2009; An Inspection at Loyalton of Harrisburg for not having hot enough water for the dishwasher. Procedures were discussed to make sure that there is sufficient hot water to be used for cleaning of the dishes and cooking.
