HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR DECEMBER, 2007

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On December 4, 2007; 693 Letters went out to the Commercial Establishments for Commercial Recycling. This letter was to inform the commercial establishments of the township what is expected staring in 2008.

On December 4, 2007; a Yard Inspection at 3619 North 6th Street with Office Tim Rogers assisting to respond to a pitt bull being tied up in the backyard with no shelter, food or water for the animal. A meeting was held on site with the dog owners and advised of the situation and told what they need to do to be responsible pet owners.

On December 5, 2007; an Inspection at 3901 North 6th Street responding to a call that a toilet leaking. This is an insurance claim for a toiler overflowing and creating a large mess in the basement which needs to be cleaned up and sanitized. I am working with the Restoration company to have the mess cleaned up.

On December 5, 2008; Rod Calhoun from Rescue Fire Company responded to a gas leak at the Wendy’s on Front Street. I spoke with Dan Eckerd-District Manager for Wendy’s about the incident and UGI was called into the scene. A leak was found in the back oven of the restaurant leading from the bottle to the oven. The appliances were shut off and the repair was made before the appliances were turned on again and the restaurant opened again on Monday morning.

On December 7, 2007; A Hepatitis B Clinic was held for the staff and the employees of the township. 22 participated in the clinic. Next round will be in March of 2008.

On December 7, 2007; A meeting about 3927 North 6th Street and the lack of heat that the tenants are having in the house.

On December 10, 2007; A Housing Code Inspection occurred at 3927 North 6th Street and numerous violations were noted. A violation letter for the violations was sent out.

On December 11, 2007; The final re-inspection occurred at 2305 Canby Street before going back to DJ Shugars for the hearing. No violations were present and all parties involved in this case will be meeting on January 11, 2008 at 10:00a.m. to discuss this case and how to proceed from here.

On December 12, 2007; A meeting was held with DEP and all of the commercial establishments within Susquehanna Township. Attending the meeting were Edward Ward, Jr., Carol Turner representing Penn Waste, myself, Mark Vottero and Walt Dinda representing DEP to inform the commercial establishments what will be required. Questions and concerns were answered and a good dialog occurred. The program begins on January 1, 2008 and reporting for 2007 is required to be to me by January 31, 2008.

On December 14, 2007; A re-inspection of the property at 3718 Walnut Street, Apt. #2. The mice have gotten better but another re-inspection will occur in January before closing the case.

On December 14, 2007; A Yard Inspection occurred at 421 Larry Drive and a violation letter has been sent out for the violation of salvage goods apparent on the side of the property.

On December 19, 2007; Code Red was done for the branches from the ice storm and how the highway crew is going to proceed. They will be picking up the debris after the holidays and after the leaves have been collected. Snow will halt everything.

On December 19, 2007; A Front porch inspection for the accumulation of salvage goods and a meeting with the owner of 2305 Canby Street to instruct the resident on that you cannot leave anything on the porch. The violation was corrected on site and no additional violation letter was needed.

On December 19, 2007; A discussion occurred with the resident at 2307 Canby Street over the accumulation of salvage goods occurring next door.

On December 22, 2007; A Dog Bite occurred in the backyard at 3618 Walnut Street which a man was walking his dog at 10:45p.m. in the back alley and the tenant of the property was taking her dog out before retiring for the evening and the dogs got into a tussle. Both of the owners tried to get the two dogs separated and both received injuries as a result of the incident. The tenant had to have surgery because her pinky finger on her left hand had to be re-attached in surgery. The other owner received minor cuts from his own dog. The man’s dog was quarantined which caused the injuries. Both of the dogs were current on all of their shots. I do expect some litigation with this case in the future.

On December 27, 2007; A Yard inspection for violations in the driveway and the time limit is January 4, 2008 for all of the violations to be corrected or a citation will be issued.

On December 27, 2007; A Housing Code Inspection at 1722 Evergreen Road for various violations. A letter has been sent to the owner and a re-inspection will occur in early February.

On December 27, 2007; A meeting with George Brown at 3614 Centerfield Road over the dog bite incident on December 22, 2007.

On December 27, 2007; A Meeting with Jessica Thorne about the dog bite incident on December 22, 2007.

On December 28, 2007; A meeting with Gary Myers, David Dyer and myself about how to proceed with the debris from the recent ice storms in December.
