HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR AUGUST, 2009

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

 On August 3, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 231 South 31st Street at Jeanine Miller’s residence to check on the status of the clean-up of the property. The roll off is full and will be removed and another will be delivered. This project is being funded by Penn Waste.

On August 3, 2009; An Onsite visit back at Walnut Crossings concerning the results of the lab reports from G-107. New evidence was found that there are 3 types of mold present. A request was made to check all of the other units on the 2nd floor and the surrounding units.

On August 4, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Quality Food Mart for the excessive amount of cardboard being left outside of the dumpster. They were advised to condense items and have the dumpster lid closed so that the dumpster could be emptied. Additional items would need to be placed inside and then have them come back to collect the additional trash and cardboard.

On August 5, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 2305 Canby Street with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting. There were issues with old rusted cans and also carpets that were starting to get soiled again and will need to be cleaned.

On August 5, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 233 South 31st Street with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting to check on the situation and the clean-up with the property.

On August 5, 2009; A Meeting with Weis Markets about out-of-date Organic Full Circle Baby Food and the labeling that is coming from the manufacturer.

On August 5, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at The Houses at Oakhurst and the property is being maintained and awaiting the arrival of the plans and review of the plans to be completed by Albert Wrightstone, Jr., Building Inspector.

On August 6, 2009; An Extensive Housing Code Inspection at Walnut Crossing at G-107, G-103, G-105, G-207, G-203 and G-201. This was a 3-hour onsite inspection and G-201 had signs of live roaches, water damage on the outside and inside walls. G-203-Bed Bugs and roaches found throughout.

On August 6, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 506 Altavista Avenue. No violations were noted on the outside but the inside inspection has yet to be done.

On August 6, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 3403 Walnut Street with George Drees, Fire marshal assisting for the dumping of trash. More of an investigation will follow.

On August 10, 2009; An Onsite Meeting at 3839 North 6th Street with Pat Ebright from the Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging as to how to handle the problems with the owners of the home and also the conditions present on the inside of the house.

On August 12, 2009; An Onsite Incident with Keith Hummel from Penn Waste and Jay the driver of the trash truck about hitting a light pole. More investigation will follow.

On August 13, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Walnut Crossings for G-107 to check on the mol and the air quality conditions within the apartment. I also revisited G-102 and G-203 and check on the status of the roaches and the repairs being made to each of these apartments.

On August 14, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Walnut Crossing at G-303 for the Bed Bugs with Terminix to make sure that the unit is free and clear from bed bugs. This is the 3rd application for the treatment of bed bugs. This case for this unit is now closed. I was assisted with the re-inspection by Eric, their Senior Maintenance man.

On August 14, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 1101 Edgemont Road with Manager Gary Myers, Albert Wrightstone, Jr., George Drees, and myself being at the structure that had a fire on May 25, 2009. The house was placarded and the work was stopped. A meeting will occur with the new owner of the property on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the township building.

On August 14, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 2413 Oxford Avenue; George Drees, Fire Marshal was also present with me. The property is placarded and all of the utilities have been shut off.

On August 17, 2009; A Housing Code at the Carriage Homes at 4635 Deer Path Road and the situation of mold and mildew is apparent on the carpet on the porch from the upstairs porch being installed wrong. The carpet needs to be removed and the wall inside needs to be replaced and then repainted. PMI is working with me to solve this case.

On August 17, 2009; The Sprinkler system had gone down in the walk-in Freezer Sunday, August 16 at the Giant at Oakhurst Blvd. I was in on Monday morning to check on the status of the situation and everything was removed from the unit. The food was placed in a refrigerated car and everything that was opened was removed and disposed of. No additional issues were noted.

On August 18, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 3621 North 6th Street. Some more progress was made on the back porch. Another re-inspection will occur in early October.

On August 18, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection at 3 Linn Street for a toilet that has seen better days. It needs to be replaced. A violation letter has gone out to the owner of the property to have this corrected.

On August 18, 2009; A Onsite visit at 4505 Fargreen Road with Michael Rohrer, Zoning Officer assisting with me to check on the complaint that there are roosters being stored on the property. Roosters are being stored and the owners of the property were informed that this is against township zoning ordinance to do so and they need to have the removed.

On August 18, 2009; A Meeting with George Drees, Albert Wrightstone, Jr., myself and Michael Rohrer on how we would all to proceed with the property at 1101 Edgemont Road.

On August 19, 2009; An Onsite Meeting with Sue Caldwell representing PMI for the Carriage Homes for a housing code inspection at 4535 Deer Path Road. Also assisting with the housing code inspection was the owner of the property, Sheila Simons and the President of the Homes Owners Association, Linda Thomas. Repairs need to be made to this unit and PMI is working with me to solve this case.

On August 19, 2009; An Extensive meeting with the new owner of 1101 Edgemont Road. Those in attendance were: Lamont Palmer, George Drees, myself, Albert Wrightstone, Jr., Michael Rohrer and Manager Gary Myers. A letter will be forthcoming as to the conditions that are required to meet all of the township bodes and to rebuild this structure.

On August 20, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 1319 Montfort Drive with various violations noted and a letter will be sent out to correct the violations.

On August 21, 2009; A Titer clinic was held here at the township building with 32 participants.

On August 25, 2009; I attended the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisor’s meeting (PSATS) meeting on CDL Management and the paperwork required to run the program.

On August 26, 2009; CASA Executive Board Meeting of the Susquehanna Conference of CASA.

On August 26, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3422 Schoolhouse Lane with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting and significant clean-up was done throughout the whole house. Another re-inspection will occur in early October.

On August 27, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3605 Darby Road with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting with the re-inspection. Progress has been made and the next re-inspection will occur in early October.

On August 27, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Springhill Suites by the Marriott. Things looked good for the middle of the construction phase. Anticipated their open around October 2, 2009.

On August 27, 2009; A Court hearing at DJ Shugars office for Kristal Blake and the complaint, Douglas Bell was also present for the court hearing. The case was dismissed.

On August 27, 2009; An Onsite visit to the old Catering Business that was present on Montrose Street. I completed the inspection with Dr. Cary Cummings also being present who is the owner of the property.
