HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR JUNE, 2009

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On June 1, 2009; A Yard Onsite Inspection at 4501 North Front Street and a housing code inspection will be scheduled at a later date.

On June 2, 2009; A Yard Onsite Inspection at 425 Larry Drive to speak with the owner again about removing the stakes in the creek behind their residence. A re-inspection will occur at the end of the week to confirm that the stakes have been removed.

On June 3, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3935 North 6th Street to verify that all of the violations present and the citations that were issued were corrected before a continence hearing on June 8 at DJ Shugars office to confirm that everything had been corrected. All of the violations were corrected and the case is now closed.

On June 3, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Rite Aid of Linglestown Road for malfunctioning stand-up freezer. It was determined that the freezer was malfunctioning and needs to be repaired.

On June 4, 2009; An Executive Board Meeting was held here at the township building for CASA.

On June 4, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3422 Schoolhouse Lane with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting with the re-inspection of the property. Some progress ahs been made but more needs to occur. Another re-inspection will occur in mid July.

On June 5, 2009; A Re-Inspection occurred at 2305 Canby Street with David Dyer assisting and no violations were present. The next inspection is scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2009.

On June 5, 2009; A Re-Inspection was done at 231 South 31st Street of Jeannine Miller to assess how the dumpster was progressing for her. Another re-inspeciton will be scheduled with George Drees, Fire Marshal on June 8.

On June 5, 2009; A Meeting at 3500 Walnut Street and informed John Royald, the Maintenance Supervisor of the building that the whole building including all of the individual units needs to be done with pest control and who and how this is going to be done needs to be back to me by the close of business today.

On June 8, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 425 Larry Drive and all of the stakes have been removed from the creek. The case is now closed.

On June 8, 2009; A Continence Hearing at DJ Shugars office occurred for 3935 North 6th Street. Citations were all dismissed because all of the violations have been corrected. The case is now closed.

On June 9, 2009; A Re-Inspection at Gaudenzia-Sienna House with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting with the re-inspection. They have had Ehrlich come in and do several sprayings and the problem is getting better. A follow-up inspection will be done in July to Make sure that the problem has been totally corrected before the case is closed.

On June 9, 2009; A Meeting with the owners of 3500 Walnut Street is being planned to take place on Friday, June 12, 2009.

On June 10, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Super 7 Food mart with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. about a trailer behind the Food Mart with someone living in it. Sure enough the trailer was there with someone living in and they were told to have it removed by Friday, June 12.

On June 10, 2009; A Meeting with Quality Food mart about expanding the business and doing catering also out of the facility and what was involved with doing that.

On June 10, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at The Homes at Oakhurst with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting with the re-inspection to check on the status of the property. A call will be made to the owners to see what is going on.

On June 10, 2009; A Visit over to 231 South 31st Street with George Drees, assisting and see how things are being removed. A lot has been removed and the dumpster is about ½ full and will be removed next week.

On June 10, 2009; A Visit to 3839 North 6th Street with George Drees to speak with the owner about the conditions of how the cats are being cared for. At this time; we didn’t feel that we needed to pursue the issued with the cats.

On June 11, 2009; An Onsite Yard Inspection with David Dyer at 3508 Union Deposit Road to check about an obstruction. There is a violation present and a letter of violations will be sent out.

On June 11, 2009; An Onsite Yard Inspection at 1300 Regency Circle about a tree and it is not their tree but the next door neighbor’s tree and it will be removed. The owners have till Friday, June 19 to have the tree removed.

On June 12, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection occurred at 2305 Canby Street and no additional violations were noted. The next inspection is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2009.

On June 12, 2009; An Onsite at Super 7 Food Mart to make sure that the trailer has been removed and it was. The case is now closed.

On June 12, 2009; An Extensive Meeting about 3500 Walnut Street for both the Aagan Restaurant and also for the Boarding Housing up above. I, George Drees, owners of the building and maintenance personnel were all in attendance. The outcome of the meeting was that I would do Food Handling on Wednesday, June 17 onsite to assist the issues with the restaurant and also a lease would be drawn up for each tenant of the building. The pest control also needs to be done throughout the building including all of the rooms upstairs. A re-inspection will occur in two weeks.

One June 15, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 4720 Rock Ledge Drive and all of the violations have been corrected on this property but the bamboo has been transferred over unto their own property at 1813 Holly Drive.

On June 15, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 1813 Holly Drive to speak with the Bollands about removing the large accumulation of bamboo that they have stored in their backyard and the property will be rechecked in two weeks to make sure that it has been removed.

On June 15, 2009; A 2nd Onsite Inspection at Simply Turkey n’ More and still not ready to go to open. Will return tomorrow.

On June 15, 2009; A Court Hearing for 3013 Crooked Hill Road and the defendant did not show up. Guilty and the property will be rechecked and if the conditions are still present then ad additional letter and citation will be issued. A phone call will be made to Bob Whitemore to see what the status the property is.

On June 15, 2009; A Court Hearing for Lamont Palmer for 2402 Brown Street and he did not show up and was found guilty.

On June 15, 2009; An Onsite Meeting with David Dyer and the highway crew at 3246 Walnut Street and have the highway crew remove all of the debris and cut the grass. A bill will be sent out to the property owner and a lien placed on the property if not paid.

On June 16, 2009; A Pandemic Flu Seminar at HACC which was very informative and I hope to have a meeting for the Restaurants and the churches concerning this later in the summer.

On June 16, 2009; Another Onsite Inspection at Simply Turkey n’ More and they are still not ready to open. Another inspection is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8:30a.m.

On June 16, 2009; A Meeting with Allen Carr who owns 2117 Walnut Street about the violations that are present at his property. Another re-inspection is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2009.

On June 17, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 3814 Kingsley Drive for a pool in the back and a copy of the water ordinance will be sent out to the owner of the property informing them of the ordinance.

On June 17, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection was conducted at 4511 North Front Street, Apt. #1 and various violations were present again. A re-inspection of the property will occur in July.

On June 17, 2009; A Food Handling Training Class was conducted onsite at Aagan Restaurant of Harrisburg for 4 employees to help assist with the many violations that have been present at the restaurant.

On June 18, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at the corner of Edwin and 6th Street for a trailer being stored illegally. A violation letter was sent out.

On June 19, 2009; Another meeting with Rick Brown about Jeanine Miller who resides at 231 South 31st Street here at the township building.

On June 19, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 231 South 31st Street with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting with the re-inspection. We are checking on the status of the property and will be having another dumpster come through to help with the clean-up of the property.

On June 19, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 2305 Canby Street with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting with the re-inspection. No new violations were noted and the next re-inspection of the property will occur on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

On June 19, 2009; A Penn Waste spill at Alexis Drive and Reichard Road-Dean Deitrich and Kenny Courts from the Susquehanna Township Highway Crew assisting with the clean up from the trash truck dumping some liquid unto the road surface as they were compressing the trash.

On June 19, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 506 North 29th Street and the high grass and weeds has been cut. The citation against the owner was also withdrawn on this date.

On June 22, 2009; A Meeting with Joe Peters and Manager Gary Myers about a 20 ft. section of the property and how the resident is to proceed to clean-up this stretch of property.

On June 22, 2009; Another visit to Simply Turkey n’ More about the items that still need to be completed. Advised the owners to contact Ron Yoffee from Middle Department. Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting with the re-inspection. A final inspection and a permanent certificate of occupancy will be issued once the issues have been resolved.

On June 23, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 2117 Walnut Street and all of the violations have been corrected. The case is now closed.

On June 23, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 215 Montrose Street to check on the tree. The tree has been removed and the citation was also withdrawn on June 23, 2009.

On June 23, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at The Brandywine Plaza with David Dyer to check on a film that is occurring in the storm sewer and leading to the Paxton Creek area. More investigation needs to occur.

On June 23, 2009; A Meeting with Mr. Brian Fetterman from 1300 Regency Circle about the taking of the tree down in the backyard and his neighbor’s.

On June 24, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection occurred at 2305 Canby Street and no new violations were present. A follow-up inspection will be set up for mid July.

On June 25, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 314 Oak Street about bamboo. An ongoing investigation needs to continue to determine the best way to prevent the bamboo from going unto the neighbor’s property.

On June 25, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 1300 Regency Circle. The tree has been completed removed from the property and the case is now closed.

On June 25, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Brandywine Plaza for a spill. Jodi Carroll from Triple Crown Corporation was on site for the inspection, David Dyer, Highway Superintendent and myself were also in attendance. A water sample will be taken to a lab and the sample will be done could take up to 10 days for the results. This is an ongoing investigation.

On June 25, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at the alleys off of Union Deposit Road. No new violations were noted.

On June 25, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 1204 Laurelwood Drive for a snake and overgrowth of vegetation from the property above like last year. A violation letter has been sent to the property owner to trim the vegetation back.

On June 29, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 3500 Walnut Street with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting to view the common areas. No new violations were noted.

On June 29, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 2305 Canby Street to check on the accumulation of excessive material on the back porch and nothing was noted.

On June 29, 2009; A Meeting with Manager Gary Myers, George Drees, Fire Marshal and myself about the ongoing issues with the Aagan Restaurant and also the Boarding House above at 3500 Walnut Street.

On June 30, 2009; A Major trash meeting with Penn Waste. Those in attendance for the meeting were President Jackie Patton, Manager Gary Myers, Commissioner Sherri Levin-McConnell, Commissioner Frank Lynch, and Commissioner Sean Sanderson. Also Solicitor Bruce Foreman, Stock and Leader Law Firm. Scott Wagner and Edward Ward from Penn Waste.
Tag-A-Bag Program was discussed and other issues concerning the trash contract.

On June 30, 2009; A Skunk citing at 305 Wedgewood Hills Drive with Patrolman Ryan Lindsley and Sgt. Ron Reinhart assisting. No sign of the skunk.
