HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR MAY, 2009

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On May 1, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 2305 Canby Street and Josephine Knoll was read the riot act by George Drees, Fire Marshal and myself. A re-inspection is to occur on Friday, May 8, 2009.

On May 1, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 350 Walnut Street in the common areas and nothing was done. A formal letter will be sent out to the owners and the manager of the property with a re-inspection again to occur at the end of May.

On May 1, 2009; A visit to Jeannine Miller at 233 South 31st Street. Checking on her and see how she is making out with the dumpster. An update will be given to the Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging.

On May 4, 2009; A Meeting over the conditions that continue to be apparent at the home at 2305 Canby Street and what course of action the township is going to take.

On May 4, 2009; An Extensive Housing Code Inspection at Gaudenzia House with Gary Stauffer from the Department of Health for bed bugs. Appalling is the only word that could be used for the conditions that were seen there. The housing code inspection was also done by myself and also Albert Wrightstone, Jr., assisting with the inspection. A very stern letter was sent out with a re-inspection to occur at the end of May.

On May 4, 2009; An emergency occurred at 2248 Concord Circle with myself and George Drees, assisting for a water leak in the downstairs basement. The breaker box was flipped and the water valve had to be shut off at the site and in the basement. The situation was handled and corrected on site. No further action is required.

On May 5, 2009; A Yard Inspection occurred at 3689 Green Street and numerous violations were noted and a violation letter was sent out.

On May 7, 2009; An Extensive meeting was held here at the township building with the Susquehanna Township Sewer Authority; myself, Pam Winters, Manager of the Sewer Authority, Kevin Fox, CET Engineer, Chris Fencel from Giants, Larry Cox, Giovanni, owner of the proposed Brother’s Pizza were all present for the meeting. The meeting was left that the architect needed to come up with more information and get back in touch with me and the sewer authority with their findings.

On May 7, 2009; An Onsite Yard Inspection with Michael Rohrer to look at the property at 3614 North 6th Street for township violations out front and in the alley of the property. Pipes needed to be removed in the alley to keep the water on their own property.

On May 7, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Brother’s Pizza with the owner Giovanni to go over the violations that were present at the Routine inspection yesterday.

On May 7, 2009; A Re-Inspection occurred at 3547 North 6th Street. All of the violations were corrected and the case is now closed.

On May 8, 2009; A Re-Inspection occurred at 2305 Canby Street and some of the violations were better but more needs to be done. George Drees, Fire Marshal assisted with the re-inspection of the property.

On May 8, 2009; A Re-Inspection at The Homes at Oakhurst and see if the violations had been corrected from the meeting that occurred in April. All of the items that had been requested were corrected. George Drees, Fire Marshal assisted with the re-inspection.

On May 11, 2009; 2305 Canby Street was placarded as UNFIT FOR HUMAN HABITATION and still is that way to this date. George Drees, Fire Marshal handled this in my absence. The stench in the front room was awful and items needed to be removed and this must occur before she would be allowed to gain access again to her home.

On May 19, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 2305 Canby Street with Albert Wrightstone, Jr., George Drees, Fire Marshal, myself and members of the United Methodist Church on Locust Lane offering assistance to have this situation corrected. The room had been shampooed and items removed; however, the dining room needs to be still cleaned the items in the basement still needs to be removed.

On May 19, 2009; A Meeting with Officer Tim Rogers over concerns with a situation that has come up with Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse and the matter will be looked into further.

On May 20, 2009; A Meeting with Albert Wrightstone, Jr., George Drees, myself, Gary Myers and Bruce Foreman on how we should proceed with the situation that is still present at 2305 Canby Street.

On May 20, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection occurred at 2107 Walnut Street and some of the violations were corrected and some new violations became present. A new letter will be sent out and another re-inspection will occur in June.

On May 20, 2009; A Personal Visit was made to 2305 Canby Street and George Drees, Fire Marshal assisted and no on was present to go over the decision from the outcome of our meeting.

On May 20, 2009; An Onsite meeting at the new proposed Brother’s Pizza over and the people present for the meeting were: myself, Chris Fencel from Cedar Shopping Center, Larry Cox, Architect, Kevin Fox from CET and Giovanni who is the owner of the new Brother’s Pizza. It was decided to use 100 gallon grease trap and the make changes to have the grease trap maintained as required by our ordinance.

On May 20, 2009; A Meeting at Billy D’S Ice Cream Shoppe and Bakery for a few questions that the owners of the property had concerning the handling of food.

On May 22, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 4620 Rock Ledge Drive for bamboo in the neighbor’s yard and also an accumulation of brush. A violation letter was sent out and re-inspection of the property will occur.

On May 26, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3500 Walnut Street. The re-inspection was assisted by George Drees, Fire Marshal and some of the violations were corrected. Some were also still present so a return visit will be conducted later today. One re-inspection occurred at 9:00a.m. and the other occurred at 11:30a.m.

On May 26, 2009; An Onsite Yard Inspection with the resident at 425 Larry Drive and the inspection was assisted by David Dyer, Highway Superintendent. We both spoke with the owners of 425 Larry Drive. The owner stated that he would remove the boards in the creek bed.
A re-inspection of the property will occur to make sure that the wood has been removed.

On May 27, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 3605 Darby Road with Albert Wrightstone, Jr., assisting with the re-inspection. Oustanding progress was made especially in the kitchen and another re-inspection will occur in middle of July.

On May 27, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 3737 Maple Street for the cutting of the hemlocks in the alley. The hemlocks were cut on site and the matter is now closed.

On May 28, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 2305 Canby Street. George Drees, Fire Marshal assisted with the re-inspection of the property. The placard was removed from the property. A letter was sent out to have regular inspections for once a week for the month of June and then monthly for the next two months to see how the situation of the cleanliness of the house remains.

On May 28, 2009; A Re-Inspection of the yard at 3416 North 6th Street and the items were cleaned up that needed to be and the case is closed for now.

On May 28, 2009; An Onsite Re-Inspection at 3500 Walnut Street with George Drees, Fire Marshal assisting with the re-inspection. A new letter going out and meeting with the tenants will be arranged. Another re-inspection will occur on Friday, June 5.

On May 28, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection conducted at 4535 Deer Path Road to check a hole in the bathroom ceiling which is coming from the bathroom above. A formal letter will be sent to PMI to schedule a meeting to address this problem.
