HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR APRIL, 2009

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On April 1, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection at 2305 Canby Street with Gary Myers, George Drees, Fire Marshal and myself. The house was really cleaned up and we will be going back on Friday, April 17, 2009.

On April 1, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Dauphin Plaza to check on the mouse traps and the status of the activity. The infestation has been contained and none went onto the adjoining residential area.

On April 2, 2009; A Meeting with the resident at 4272 North 6th Street about the feeding of cats.

On April 3, 2009; An extensive drive through the alley s of the east and the upper end of the township with David Dyer, Highway Superintendent for leaves being placed out on the street. Violation letters have gone out.

On April 6, 2009; A Meeting with Janet Straw about her neighbor’s cats; Shirley Turner and how to handle the situation.

On April 6, 2009; An Onsite inspection at 3645 North 6th Street to investigate the site for a future massage therapy practice. No violations were noted. She was referred to the Zoning Officer, Michael Rohrer.

On April 6, 2009; A Meeting with Shirley and Doug Turner about their cats and that they need to keep them contained.

On April 7, 2009; An Onsite meeting at 1302 Montfort Drive to check out a new mobile unit and I am waiting for the project to be completed and then inspect the mobile unit to start the business.

On April 7, 2009; A Grease back up on the upper end of Front Street. Visits to McDonald’s Morgan’s Place, Pizza Hut and the Glass Lounge. Follow-up letter was sent out.

On April 8, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection at 204 Shell Street with Terri Kittinger from Dauphin County Department Area Agency on Aging with Albert Wrightstone, Jr., Building Inspector and myself. The house needs to have the rug shampooed. Strong smell of urine throughout the house.

On April 8, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 3697 Smokehouse Lane and the dumpster is fine.

On April 8, 2009; A Meeting with Janet Straw about the neighbor’s cats again.

On April 9, 2009; A Court Hearing at DJ Shugars office for Debbie Medllion and she was found guilty but the fine was reduced to $50.00.

On April 9, 2009; A Court Hearing for Uni-Mart. An inspection is to occur the week of April 13 and report back to DJ Shugars as to the outcome of the inspection.

On April 9, 2009; A Meeting with Pam Winters to discuss the upcoming 537 plan on Roberts Valley Road and also the back-up of grease on Front Street. A letter will be forthcoming.

On April 13, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 233 South 31st Street for Jeannine Miller with George Drees, Fire Marshal. The dumpster is secured and additional pictures were taken of the upstairs.
The dumpster arrived on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 and a re-inspection will occur after the dumpster has been removed.

On April 13, 2009; A Meeting onsite at The Homes Oakhurst with Debbie Swartz from Sue Helm’s Office, myself, George Drees, Fire Marshal, Gary Myers, Manager and the complaints-The Placeks about the ongoing situation at The Homes at Oakhurst.

On April 13, 2009; A Meeting with Pam about the conclusion of the investigation for the grease back-up on Front Street.

On April 14, 2009; A Walk through with John Dixon, Foreman for the project at the new Giant. Everything looks really good.

On April 14, 2009; A Return visit to the Cracker Barrel Restaurant to recheck the dishwasher and make sure that it is working properly.

On April 15, 2009; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 3547 North 6th Street to check on the status of the violations. Some were corrected. I am awaiting a return call from the contractor the complete the inspection and close the case.

On April 16, 2009; A Meeting at The Homes at Oakhurst with the Shenai’s.-Dr. Shenai and his daughter Neena, Gary Myers, Manager, George Drees, Fire Marshal, Commissioner Diane Bowman and myself to discuss the conditions present on the property and the finishing of the two remaining buildings.

On April 16, 2009; I attended the Shade Tree Commission meeting to address the situation about the trees on private property.

On April 17, 2009; A Minor fire at Charlie Brown’s in the HVAC system. A belt burnt up on the roof of the restaurant and the restaurant was evacuated with minor damages. The restaurant was closed for 1 ½ hours during this time.

On April 17, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 2307 Canby Street and violations have remained. The owner needs to clean up the property. Another re-inspection will occur in two weeks.

On April 20, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection at 3249 Walnut Street but no one was present for initial inspection and no further action is being taken.

On April 20, 2009; A Housing Code Inspection occurred at Whisperwood Apartments at 3640 Brookridge Terrace. The apartment was in a state of trash and debris again. A letter of violation went out to the occupant of the apartment. A re-inspection was scheduled for April 29, 2009 because of the conditions being so bad.

On April 21, 2009; An Onsite Inspection with David Dyer to recheck some of the addresses that were putting out the leaves in the street throughout the upper end and east end of the township.

On April 21, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 3606 North 2nd Street in the yard for an accumulation of wood and brush that was present on the property. A violation letter was sent out and a re-inspection will occur in early May.

On April 22, 2009; An Onsite Septic Inspection occurred at 3013 Crooked Hill Road with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. assisting with the inspection. Nothing has changed and this case is now being referred over to Bob Whitemore.

On April 23, 2009; A Housing Code and Yard Inspection at 3605 Darby Road with numerous violations noted on the inside of the property. A letter of violations went out with a re-inspection to occur in late May.

On April 23, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at 233 South 31st Street with the owner and see how things were progressing with the dumpster. She asked to have the dumpster one more week.

On April 23, 2009; A Housing Code and Yard Re-Inspection at 3422 Schoolhouse Lane with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. Back porch had been cleaned up but issues are still present within the property and needs to be cleaned up. Another re-inspection will occur in late May.

On April 23, 2009; A meeting occurred about a gas leak over on Union Deposit Road and Progress Avenue and the water is being looked into further and will be resolved.

On April 23, 2009; A meeting with Simply Turkey n’ More with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. for a mid way construction project and make sure that no other changes have occurred since the plans were approved last year. They are expected to open in May of 2009.

On April 24, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3424 Walnut Street and all of the violations were corrected from the initial inspection and now the case is closed.

On April 24, 2009; An Onsite Inspection at Great Wall Restaurant to make sure that the Restaurant had cleaned up and they had and a re-inspection will occur in two weeks.

On April 27, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 140 Lucknow Road for the yard. Violations that needed to be corrected were corrected. This house will continue to be monitored and another re-inspection will occur the week of May 18.

On April 28, 2009; An Onsite Inspection with David Dyer on Beaucrest Drive at the Wilhelm Road area to check on a plot of grass. This is a matter between two property owners and the township does not get involved with. No further action is required.

On April 29, 2009; An Onsite Inspection with George Drees at the Boarding House above Aagan at Harrisburg Restaurant. Some violations were noted and a re-inspection will occur next week to make sure that the violations are corrected.

On April 29, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 3416 North 6th Street and violations are still present and another inspection will be set up to bring Michael Rohrer, Zoning Officer into the picture for other violations that are present.

On April 29, 2009; A Re-Inspection at 3640 Brookridge Terrace, Apt. #103 and all of the violations that had been present at the original inspection are now all corrected. The case is now closed again.

On April 29, 2009; A Yard Inspection occurred at 312 Oak Street with bamboo coming up out of the driveway from the neighbor’s. The neighbor is going to have to relocate the bamboo to not infringe on the rights of the land owner.

On April 29, 2009; A Re-Inspection at the Boarding House above the Aagan at Harrisburg Restaurant and none of the violations were corrected. So a formal letter will be sent to the manager of the building and also the property owner. Blood was found in the walk-in cooler and on the walls in the Aagan at Harrisburg Restaurant and they were instructed to clean up. A regular routine inspection of the Aagan at Harrisburg Restaurant will occur tomorrow.

On April 30, 2009; A Yard Inspection at 3621 North 6th Street and some progress has been made. Another re-inspection will occur at the end of June.
