SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR FEBRUARY, 2008

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On February 1, 2008; A clinic for Hepatitis B Series II clinic was done with 22 participants from the staff participating. The third and final series will be done in June of 2008.

On February 4, 2008; A meeting with David Dyer about the preparing for the upcoming meeting on Friday, February 8 with DEP.

On February 5, 2008; A Housing Code Inspection was conducted at 2305 Canby Street for Josephine Knoll and no new violations were noted. She was advised to continue to reduce the amount of fireload.

On February 6, 2008; A meeting with Hui Wang about the dog bite which occurred in January at 1944 Christopher Place while delivering a take out order to the residence. The animal was current on her shots and the animal was quarantined at home. A citation was issued because the owner of the dog has been anything but cooperative.

On February 7, 2008; The quarterly meeting for CASA was held here at the township building and I attended the meeting.

On February 8, 2008; An extensive meeting was held with DEP over grants and recycling and what can be done to increase not only recycling within the township but also to increase the amount of money that the township receives in grants.

On February 11, 2008; An Executive Board Meeting was held here at the township building for CASA.

On February 12, 2008; A meeting was held with Concentra Medical Center concerning the township and their DOT program for collection. Some new information will be forwarded over to me for review by both the township and sewer authority to see about combining the programs together to save some money.

On February 14, 2008; A Re-inspection occurred at 1722 Evergreen Road and all of the violations that had been noted were corrected. The case is now closed.

On February 15, 2008; A Yard inspection occurred to check on the container that a resident was using at 2001 Sauer’s Road. It was decided that the resident must remove the trash from the container or the trash will not be picked up.

On February 15, 2008; A Meeting with DEP. Mark Vottero and John Lundsted were here from DEP, Carol Turner and Mona Mondo from Penn Waste were also in attendance, and myself about the 902 Grant application and an extensive discussion about the commercial recycling within the township.

On February 19, 2008; A Meeting with Joe Berlin from Bagel Lover’s Café about possibly moving the Bagel shop and what would be required in order to make the move.

On February 20, 2008; A housing code and yard inspection occurred at 3853 North 6th Street and numerous violations were cited. A repeat inspection will occur at the end of March.

On February 25, 2008; A Court hearing with Leslie McGinnis to determine what is going to happen with the citations for the property located at 3927 North 6th Street. A re-inspection at the request of DJ Shugars has been set up for March 28, 2008 at 4:30p.m. After the inspection or if the inspection does not occur then a report will be made back to DJ Shugars to determine the outcome of the case.

On February 26, 2008; A Re-Inspection at 117 Wading Springs Lane with Albert Wrightstone, Jr. occurred. A lot of progress has been made on the removal of salvage and trash items but more needs to be done. Another re-inspection has been scheduled for the end of April.

On February 27, 2008; A Re-Inspection at 3718 Walnut Street occurred at Apartment #2 and off of the violations have been corrected and the case is now closed.

On February 28, 2008; The dumping occurred of 31 cases of burger that were in the recalled
Meat from Advance Food Company. A roll-off dumpster was provided by Penn Waste and was removed immediately after the dumping. The meat was taken down to Lancaster and dumped at the landfill down there. None of the meat was ingested by the students within Susquehanna Township.

On February 29, 2008; A Meeting with the loaders and the haulers of Penn Waste, Kathy Masch-Operations Manager, Edward Ward, Jr. and Keith Hummel to try and work out the differences within the contract that needs to be addressed.

On February 29, 2008; A Re-Inspection of 2400 Brown Street and all of the violations have been corrected. The case is now closed.
