HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR JANUARY, 2010

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On January 4, 2010; A Housing Code Inspection was done at Walnut Crossings at Apt. G-107 to be present for air quality testing to make sure that the unit that had mold in the ceiling last July was safe to be refurbished and re-occupied by new tenants. The air quality tests were then received on January 19, 2010 and all of the testing indicated that the mold spores were diminished and within safe range. Walnut Crossings was informed of the results and they are able to refurbish the apartment to rent. The case is now closed after 6 months.

On January 5, 2010; A Housing Code Re-Inspection was done at 213 Shell Street, Apt. #B-11 for the flooring in the bathroom. All of the violations have been corrected and the case is now closed.

On January 5, 2010; Keith Hummel from Penn Waste advised me of a fire in the back of a trash truck picking up trash on today’s route in around the Ridgeway and Hillcrest area. A meeting was held with Gary Myers, Manager and George Drees, Fire Marshal about the matter.

On January 6, 2010; A Dog Bite occurred on January 4, 2010 at the home of the owner of the dog which is at 2025 Rock Fall Road. The boxer was up-to-date on her shots and a home quarantine was allowed. The health certificate was due back by the close of business on Friday, January 22, 2010 and the health certificate was received on time. The case is now closed.

On January 6, 2010; I responded to several complaints received from a resident concerning the accumulation of snow and ice present on the sidewalks in the Montrose area of the township. Violation letters were sent out and the violations were corrected.

On January 7, 2010; Two Housing Code Inspections were conducted at 3 Linn Street, Apt. #2 and #3 for various violations. A violation letters was sent out to the landlord of the property with a re-inspection coming in February.

On January 12, 2010; A Housing Code and Yard Inspection was conducted at 302 Oak Street for mold being present in the basement of the home. A violation letter was sent out to the owner of the property and a re-inspection will occur later in the month or early February.

On January 13, 2010; A Meeting with Pat Shepler at 4272 North 6th Street again about leaving food out in the back of her property for cats. I did indicate to her at this time that the next complaint I receive concerning her leaving food out will result in a citation being issued.

On January 19, 2010; A Court Hearing for Jodi Anderson at 314 Oak Street for the bamboo. The resident was found guilty by DJ Jim Lenker. She was advised to seek permission from the neighbor and address the problem as soon as the weather was permissible.

On January 19, 2010; A Court Hearing for Judith Rodriquez about still having too much trash being present at her residence at 3540 North 6th Street. She did not show up for the hearing and she was found guilty by abstention.

On January 19, 2010; A Court Hearing for Antoni Birando and he was advised that he had two weeks in order to have the vehicle removed or the citation would stand by DJ Lenker. A continuance hearing is set for Thursday, February 4, 2010 to see if the vehicle has been removed.

On January 19, 2010; A Meeting with Empire Asian Bistro about advising that they are required to use Penn Waste for all of their trash and recycling needs. The matter was corrected by the end of the discussion.

On January 20, 2010; A Housing Code Re-Inspection occurred at 3605 Darby Road and a lot of progress has been made at the residence in the accumulation of clutter and salvage goods. Another re-inspection will occur in early March.

On January 20, 2010; An Inspection occurred at Rite Aid of Linglestown Road concerning a complaint received about the freezers not working right and keeping the ice cream frozen and solid. No violation was noted at the time of the inspection. No additional follow-up will be done at this time.

On January 20, 2010; A Housing Code Inspection occurred at 3539 Pine Street following an incident with the police. The housing code inspection was done by Lynn Roche, Health Officer and Albert Wrightstone, Jr. and both representing Susquehanna Township. Minor violations were noted and corrected on site. No further follow-up is needed at this time.

On January 20, 2010; An Inspection occurred at 321 Redwood Street and the trash is still present in the alley and the resident was advised of the 4 container limit. If this situation occurs again then a citation will be issued. Another re-inspection occurred on January 26, 2010 and no excess trash was present so the case is now closed.

On January 21, 2010; A Yard Inspection at 405 Alden Street for salvage goods in the backyard. A violation letter was sent out for the violation and needs to be corrected by Friday, February 5, 2010.

On January 22, 2010; A Visit to Uni-Mart which changed ownership and has never notified the township. They were advised that they needed to have an inspection before they could switch over to the new owners. A license is not transferrable. A repeat visit occurred on January 26, 2010 and the license was then received on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. An inspection for the new owner was conducted on Thursday, January 28, 2010.

On January 26, 2010; A Skunk was taken down at 2808 Hillside Court and taken over to the Dept. of Agriculture’s Vet lab for testing. There was no human exposure with the skunk. The skunk did come back negative. However the skunk did have distemper which caused the skunk to be sick.

On January 27, 2010; Non-Profit Food Training was conducted at the Township Building in the Pincus Hearing Room. 32 People attended the training from fire companies and churches within Susquehanna Township.

On January 28, 2010; A Court Hearing for Garrett Garnett was held. The resident lives at 304 North 31st Street. This was the 3rd citation issued. DJ Lenker dismissed the charges and stated to the resident that this is the last time. Any other citations come before him and the maximum fine will be accessed.

On January 28, 2010; A Meeting at Quality Food mart about the trash along the side of the property and also a chest freezer that doesn’t work needs to be removed from the property. A re-inspection was done on February 2, 2010 and all of the violations were corrected. The case is now closed.

On January 28, 2010; An Onsite Yard Inspection at 306 Oak Street and numerous violations were noted. Pictures were taken of the violations and a letter went out. Violations need to be corrected by Friday, February 5, 2010.

On January 28, 2010; A Housing Code Re-Inspection occurred at 302 Oak Street for black mold. The black mold in the basement is being worked on by the landlord. No one is currently residing in the home. Another re-inspection will occur in February.

On January 28, 2010; A visit to Inertia Massage with Patrolman Ferrufino assisted with this Massage Therapy Salon. The salon was closed temporarily pending a criminal background record being received. The criminal background record was received and everything is fine. The facility and the technicians are now licensed and operating under the township ordinance.

On January 29, 2010; H1N1 Flu Clinic was held here at the township building in the Pincus Hearing Room. 35 employees attended the clinic.
