SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR JANUARY, 2008

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS
There were numerous inspections made on premises throughout the Township as a result of complaints, or scheduled survey and these premises were found to have either trash, weeds, or abandoned vehicles as the problem. These and other miscellaneous complaints were corrected or are in the process of correction through personal contact or letter notification.

On January 2, 2008; A meeting with Mr. Leo over concerns about the trash contract provided by Penn Waste.

On January 3, 2008; An Onsite Inspection with Keith Hummel at 5215-5219 North Front Street about having to change the placing of trash because of the building of the Church without Walls project.

On January 3, 2008; A meeting at La Oaxacana to discuss the implementation of a stove and a hood system at the Mexican Store at the Progress Plaza.

On January 9, 2008; A Meeting with Jessica Thorne about the status of the dog bite and the wounds she sustained from the dog bite before Christmas.

On January 9, 2008; An Inspection at the Best Western for an infestation of Roaches. Roaches were found dead in the Breakfast Nook area and a re-inspection with manager again on Thursday, January 10, 2008 and with the pest control company. They have a contract with Home Paramount and the situation was discussed on how to remedy the situation.

On January 11, 2008; A Court hearing for 3422 Schoolhouse Lane for the owner of the property. She did not show up for the hearing and the case is set up for another housing code re-inspection to be conducted on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 2:30p.m.

On January 11, 2008; An Extensive discussion occurred over the case for 2305 Canby Street and how to proceed with this case. This case was held at DJ Shugar’s Court and he stated that he wishes to have the case continue for the next 6 months to allow the township t conduct 1 inspection monthly. Another hearing will be held in July to determine the final outcome of the case.

On January 14, 2008; A Meeting with George Drees, Fire Marshal, Albert Wrightstone Jr., Building Inspector, Commissioner Sean Sanderson, Gary Myers, myself about the situation at 3422 Schoolhouse Lane. A re-inspection of the property is scheduled for Friday, January 18, 2008 and George Drees will be assisting with the re-inspection.

On January 15, 2008; A Housing Code Re-Inspection occurred at 117 Wading Springs Lane and much progress has been made. It was requested by me to Penn Waste that Penn Waste
Pick-up additional trash for the next several weeks to help clear out this property. This would include both trash bags and also additional bulk items.

On January 16, 2008; Another housing code inspection was conducted at 3927 North 6th Street for a major mice infestation due to the structure. This is not related to the tenants which are clean people. This is an old structure and needs some major updating.

On January 16, 2008; A yard inspection was conducted at 3840 North 6th Street concerning the living conditions of the dog in the backyard. The animal has no shelter, no food and no water present. A card was left after no response at the door.

There was also a lot of loose trash apparent in the backyard and the alley and the owner has until Friday, January 18, 2008 to have all of the loose trash collected.

On January 18, 2008; A Housing Code Re-Inspection with George Drees at 3422 Schoolhouse Lane to see if the violations had been corrected. Significant changes in the dining room area and the other areas that had been cleaned up were still cleaned-up. A repeat inspection will occur in February.

On January 18, 2008; A Re-Inspection yard inspection at 3540 North 6th Street with Officer Ryan Reitheimer assisting with the yard inspection. A brief discussion occurred with the niece of the residence about the living conditions of the dog and how the owner needed to be more responsive about the dog and make sure that the dog remained secured in the yard.

On January 23, 2008; A Housing Code Inspection occurred at 3406B Old Orchard Road and numerous violations were noted. A repeat housing code inspection will occur in late February.

On January 24, 2008; I attended a PROP(Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania) meeting at Fort Hunter to discuss upcoming changes within DEP and what impact the changes will have on the individual municipalities.

On January 25, 2008; A Housing Code Inspection occurred at 609 Cherrington Drive for a water leak from the townhouse above. A violation letter was sent out to the owner above to correct the problem.

On January 30, 2008; A Housing Code Re-Inspection at 3927 North 6th Street was to have occurred and the landlord was not present. The tenants apparently were not at the house and 10 citations were issued for the violations not being corrected and no one present for the housing code re-inspection.

On January 31, 2008; 13 people attended the Non-Profit Food Training which was held at the township building. The people who were in the class included; churches, fire companies and swim clubs.
