MINUTES

SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP REGULAR MEETING
BOARD OF HEALTH SEPTEMBER 18, 2008

The Regular Meeting of the Susquehanna Township Health Board met and was called to order by Dr. Bakare’s at 12:15p.m. in the Susquehanna Room at the Susquehanna Township Municipal Building.

The Health Board Minutes from the June 19, 2008 were approved by Dr. Bruce Goodman and seconded by Carol Peteres.

OLD BUSINESS FOR THE HEALTH BOARD MEETING INCLUDED:

NEW BUSINESS BEFORE THE HEALTH BOARD INCLUDED:

The guest speaker for the Health Board Meeting was Eric Naguski from The Dauphin County Conservation District. He gave a very informative talk about the new pest that has emerged; The Asian Tiger Mosquito which has increased its presence over the last two years. This mosquito likes to live and lay their eggs in outdoor containers, ivy and usually it is within 100 yards that they are biting. The mosquito bites during the daytime usually around the ankles up to the knees. The mosquito lay between 40-150 eggs after obtaining a blood meal. Diseases that this mosquito can carry include: Dog Heartworm, Encephalitis, and West Nile Virus.

Ways to control: Eliminate the breeding containers and biodegradable repellents will work but you must get to the source of the nest.

Other New Business to come before the Health Board include: Dr. Bakare mentioned that a noise problem is going on throughout the Crooked Hill Road area. Chief Martin will check into this matter.

It was also brought up about people parking their cars on the lawns and leaving them there. Lynn Roche will check into this matter as going out on patrol throughout the township.

ADJOURNMENT: The motion for adjournment was entertained by Dr. Bakare and seconded by Carol Peters at 1:00p.m. The meeting was adjourned.

The next Health Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Noon.
